Casuarina cunninghamiana

The foliage consists of jointed needle-like branchlets with reduced leaves in whorls of 8-10. Young trees have a pyramidal crown, which becomes more open with maturity. Male flower spikes are borne at the tips of shoots and small rounded female flowers occur in clusters along the branches. Fertilized female flowers develop into rounded cones (purplish) which ripen in the autumn and shed seed at maturity. This plant grows to a height of roughly 20-35m and has a diameter of about 0.5-1.5m. This plant is not drought tolerant.
