Dense evergreen shrub. Leaves are ovate to oblong, roughly 8cm long and vary from glossy light green to matt dark green. Catkins are borne from winter to early spring and these are quite large (15 to 20cm long) and green in colour. Garrya elliptica grows to about 4m high and 4m wide. This plant is not drought tolerant.
